Abstract

Objective: To assess the extent of genetic predisposition to preterm. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from the Aberdeen Maternity and Neonatal Databank which records all deliveries in Aberdeen, Scotland from 1950 onwards. Intergenerational data on deliveries occurring in mother-daughter pairs were analysed. Primary Outcome: Preterm in the daughters' pregnancies. Statistical analysis: We used a mixed effect model and assumed a working exchangeable correlation that constant risk of having preterm in any pregnancy if woman had maternal history of preterm. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated. Results: Analysis included 22,343 pregnancies in 13,845 daughters. Women who were born spontaneously preterm had significantly higher odds of delivering preterm babies 1.49 (1.12, 1.99) after adjusting for other characteristics
