Abstract:
|
The high prevalence of overweight has contributed to increase research into this epidemic. Currently, beside biological factors, socio-economic and environment characteristics have been studied. This study aims to identify the spatial risk of obesity. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 651 local residents in a municipality in Southeast Brazil. A generalized additive model that analyzes the risk related to spatial dependence and allows inclusion of covariates was used. The results identify significant geographical areas of higher/lower risk of overweight, setting the existence of a spatial component in the obesity epidemic in this region, as well as known risk factor as sex and age (p< 0.05). From the statement of estimated risk for obesity generated in this study, we can locate the obesogenic environments and study of the reasons for this.
