Abstract:

In epidemiology studies,subjects maybe followed for a period during which study outcomes are measured at selected times, such as by diagnostic testings.Although test results may indicate the presence/absence of a disease,they cannot provide exact information on when it occurred. Such designs generate arbitrarily censored survival data. Adding to this complexity, the data may be correlated within clusters. We describe the use of parametric frailty models to examine the relationship between exposures and arbitrary censored outcomes, while accounting for within-cluster correlation. SAS can be used for parameter estimation. The data structure and method are illustrated by studying circumcision's effect on HPV clearance using data from a male circumcision trial,where the multiple infections within individual and HPV testings at followups gave rise to the arbitrary censored and clustered data.
