Abstract:

Recently data were captured on changes in ankle biomechanics using a tri-axial accelerometer embedded in a subject's shoe during a fatiguing activity. The accelerometer measurements were compared to the established gold standard force plate measurements for such studies. The most highly correlated findings were the temporal measurements that linked time to peak angular orientation to time to peak frontal plane foot position. Also the medial-lateral time to stabilization measured by both the accelerometer and force plate were used to monitor the performance activities. Although time to stabilization is useful for measuring dynamic stability, there is no generally agreed upon standard testing method. In the current study, three criteria are proposed and four different interpolation methods-nearest neighbor, linear, cubic, and spline -are employed for predicting time to stabilization.
