Abstract:
|
Pre-service teachers have been the focus of much research, including studies that concentrate on teacher preparation and/or teacher beliefs and attitudes. Our CAUSE-supported research team developed a new instrument to measure levels of pre-service middle school teachers' self-efficacy to teach statistics. We piloted an activity designed to validate this instrument at USCOTS 2009. We engaged college-level statistics educators in an activity about the linkages between 1) expectations for student learning from the PreK-12 GAISE guidelines, 2) self-efficacy measures, and 3) related content validity items in the context of teaching statistics. The experts assessed alignment between each content item with the associated GAISE guidelines and self-efficacy measures.
