Abstract:
|
The usual actuarial life table models the human life from birth to death. This will be expanded to a form in which some, but not all, of the people spend time in a nursing home before death. With data collected from separate sources, and there are problems in piecing those sources together. The sources give survival information (without regard to use of nursing homes), the duration of times in nursing homes, and the proportion of the population in nursing homes at each age. The application will be survival data for women, beginning with age 40, with the nuance that these women may spend time in a nursing home before they die. The problem was motivated by the need to make assessments on the cost of long-term care insurance.
