Keywords: statistical software ; introductory statistics
Abstract:

GNU PSPP is a free clone of SPSS. Though in a pre-1.0 release, the program has enough statistical functionality for use in an introductory statistics course. Its graphical user interface is similar to that of SPSS. Students can install PSPP on their own machines at no cost, or use a Linux Live CD containing the program, thereby bypassing the need for a campus IT department to install SPSS in computer labs. PSPP can also read and write SPSS data file format and SPSS syntax. In addition to being useful in teaching introductory statistics, PSPP can handle very large data sets.
