Abstract:

In recent years, there has been a substantial growth in the number of multicenter clinical trials. However, the number of sites included in trials is often dictated by enrollment rates needed to achieve timeline goals without consideration for how these factors might influence study results and their interpretation or how they might interact with other considerations for design optimization. In this presentation, the effective sample size, quantifying the amount of information in the clinical trial on a parameter of interest will be explained and how it can be used to optimize designs for trials involving continuous outcomes. Understanding these issues will be critical to the researchers and regulatory agencies in designing and analyzing multicenter trials more efficiently.
