Abstract:
|
As the winner of a national Mathematical Association of America Teaching award, in January 2010, Allan Rossman gave a presentation at the Joint Mathematical Meetings titled "Ask Good Questions. He encouraged educators to ask good questions to encourage students to develop their own understanding of concepts, capture their interest, promote learning and focus attention on valued skills for assessment, as well as encourage them to ask their own questions. Building on Allan's presentation, this panel will discuss characteristics that make questions good and distinguish them from bad questions, how to assess a question, how to modify a "bad" question to make it into a good one, and how to effectively integrate good questions into a classroom.
