Abstract:

In survival analysis, the comparison of competing statistical prediction models is often complicated for two reasons. First, the event times are right censored. Second, only one data set is available to both build and validate models. In this talk, we focus on a method for comparing competing models based on bootstrap-cross validation. The method allows one to compare a wide variety of models including non-nested models. To illustrate this feature, a worked example comparing prediction models (on the population level and for single patients) based on random survival forests and Cox regression will be discussed.
