Abstract:
|
A Bayesian approach for noninferiorirty trials, with normal response outcomes, is developed by assuming noninformative priors for the normal means and Jeferrey's prior for the variances, for the case when variances are unknown. For the active control, the priors for the mean and variance, when the latter is assumed unknown, are taken to be the posteriors of the corresponding parameters of the treatment arm in the historical trial. The Bayesian decision criterion for the experimental treatment to be noninferior to the active control is proposed and its performance is evaluated and compared with the frequentist's criterion for non-inferiority, using a simulation study and performance characteristics such as power and type-I error. Finally, the Bayesian and frequentist's decision criteria are applied to a noniferiority trial dataset
