Abstract:
|
In nondestructive evaluation (NDE) research, complex censoring and truncation are often present in the data due to the nature of the inspection procedures and interference from noise. This paper describes an application in which field inspection data is to be used to jointly estimate the crack-size distributions in a population of units and the probability of detecting cracks. Because of the nature of the inspection and repair processes, complicated censoring and truncation arise, as well as random crack growth effect and repeated longitudinal measurement of growing cracks. In this paper we describe the application and show how to develop a consistent method of estimation.
