Abstract:

Multivariate statistical methods are used to explain the relation between the extrasolar planets and the main characteristics of their host stars. This analysis can help us to determine which variables are playing a significant role in the formation and evolution of exoplanets. For this work we used the data compiled in the Exoplanet Data Explorer at exoplanets.org. According to the catalog only the exoplanets detected by radial velocity (RV) and transit methods are considered. The properties of the host star include the effective temperature, luminosity, metallicity, RHK (an indicator of the magnetic activity) and surface gravity. The exoplanet is described by the eccentricity, orbital period, and velocity semiamplitude. We estimate the parameters and compare the models obtained from multivariate statistical techniques.
