Abstract:
|
Specimen pooling offers a cost-effective strategy to estimate individual-level risk parameters with very little loss of statistical power & improves the efficiency of case-control studies that rely on an expensive assay for a biomarker. After forming outcome-based strata, one combines equal volume aliquots from the individuals within each stratum & then assays only a pooled specimen. We extend these methods for application to a discrete-time survival outcome when exposure assessment is based on an expensive assay &/or limited volumes of bio-specimen are available per participant.Assuming a logistic model between individual exposure & the outcome,we propose a pooling strategy that forms pooling sets within strata defined by event time.We show that the pooled exposure model can be used to estimate the exposure effect on individual level risk. Simulations and example are provided.
