Abstract:

The Southern California Chapter of the ASA has been holding an annual project competition for AP Statistics students since 2006. The competition has steadily grown each year and in 2009 attracted 47 entries from four counties in the region. That year, the event also added a teacher's session for those who accompanied their students to the competition. For the chapter, the event has become a successful outreach to both high school students and teachers. The discussion will review the history of the competition, provide details on the format of the competition including the judging, and outline other essential elements that contribute to the success of the event. It is hoped that other chapters will find practical tips and encouragement to begin their own competitions.
