Abstract:
|
Brucellosis is a bacterial disease that causes fetal abortions, decreased milk production, and infertility in ungulates (e.g.,cattle, elk). The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) is the last reservoir of this disease in the United States. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department maintains an elk vaccination program to protect both wild elk and domestic cattle. The program provides thousands of records consisting of the results of 3 to 6 serological assays collected from individual elk at various times and locations across the GYE since 1973. Our main objective is to provide space-time predictions of disease prevalence and related quantities to aid decisions regarding the timing and location of vaccination efforts. Toward this objective, we report on our efforts to build a Bayesian statistical model to combine the multiple assays and to account for various covariates over time and space.
