Abstract:
|
Statisticians continue to be a key to advancing biological, computational, engineering, physical and social sciences. Most scientific discoveries are data-driven and are based on using appropriate statistical methodology. A number of disciplines are facing a data-crisis where the data sets are increasing rapidly both in size and complexity. Terms, such as, "data deluge" and "data tsunami" are being used to describe the massive data being generated in various sciences. Innovative methods to deal with new challenges are being developed by statistical and computational sciences. Future needs in analytics, informatics and data-enabled sciences provide many opportunities for statisticians to lead and to be innovative. It also requires training of future problem solvers with strong core, communication and computational skills.
