Abstract:

The set of input values for with a given function exceeds a given level is called a level sets. Such sets play important roles in many statistical applications including classification and quality control. While the estimation of such sets has received considerable attention recently, procedures that allow for statistical inference are rare at this point. In this talk we present a bootstrap approach for constructing upper and lower confidence regions for level sets with given asymptotic coverage level. A generic approach is presented and then exemplified by bootstrapping a kernel estimator for a probability density and a regression function, respectively. This is joint work with Enno Mammen, University of Mannheim, Germany.
