Abstract:
|
In a previous paper, we used a Monte Carlo simulation to estimate the impact of baserunning ability in Major League Baseball. In this paper, we add a Bayesian framework to improve our estimates of each baserunner's ability. We then exhaustively search the space of all players to identify the best and worst baserunners. The source code for the simulator itself, known as SimulOutCome, has undergone major revisions and is now available under an open source license. Notably, all data is now taken from the publicly available Retrosheet database.
