Abstract:
|
Environmental indicators provide for assessing sustainability of natural resources. Sustainability is a complex construct for which multiple indicators must be considered simultaneously in prioritizing landscape units for conservation or remediation. Since several indicators are seldom in complete agreement, partial ordering is pertinent. Rank relations are used for precedence plots and salient scaling by ORDIT ordering. Need for restoration and remediation is indicated by distal data showing upper and lower extents of rank ranges. Consistent cases have narrow range of rankings for indicators. A suggested strategy to circumvent computational constraints is partitioning the pool by clustering, pursuing precedence of partitions, and then prioritizing in particular partitions. Approaches are implemented in the R statistical software system.
