Abstract:
|
The introductory statistics course has seen many new changes, e.g. incorporating hands-on activities, increasing use of real data, implementing the GAISE guidelines, adding new software, facilitating more than lecturing, and creating opportunities for discovery.
However, we have not discussed the implications of incorporating these new approaches, methods, and materials into the existing course. The reality is that in order to accomplish our new goals, we cannot simply 'add' more items to the existing course; we have to redesign the course to meet these new needs. The first and most doable step toward that end is to take a good look at the existing course, and let go of some items.
But what can/should we let go of in order to grow? Come and hear ideas, recommendations and opinions from a panel of well-known statistics educators, and bring your own questions for discussion.
