Abstract:
|
Usable software is essential for deploying new statistical ideas to application environments, and has a priority in research that rivals publication itself. We want to extend the Matlab and R software for functional data analysis to multi-index arguments such as space, space/time, and linear and nonlinear coordinate frames, not to mention functional data objects for dynamical systems. This talk is a reflection on what new design considerations might look like, and how they challenge these languages to go beyond the matrix as the core object.
