Abstract:
|
Temple University and Merck Research Laboratories have had a long-standing partnership in statistics. Collaborative researches between Temple professors and the practicing statisticians at Merck have brought meaningful contributions to the practice of statistics in the pharmaceutical industry. The first case study highlights the collaborative research effort that won the 2001 W.J. Youden Award in Interlaboratory Testing. This collaboration has provided new insights in the analysis and design of assay comparison experiments. The second case study is on the current disconnect between the most common variability metric in statistics (SD) and the most popular variability metric in biological or chemical sciences (RSD). An inter-discipline academic-industry partnership is presently needed to facilitate a dialogue between statisticians and biological or chemical scientists.
