Abstract:
|
Every day people are bombarded by television ads, public service announcements, and media reports warning of dire risks to their health and offering solutions to help them lower those risks. But many of these messages are incomplete, misleading, or exaggerated, leaving the average person people misinformed and confused. We developed and evaluated Know Your Chances an example-based primer to help people understand health statistics. In this paper we discuss how Know Your Chances could be used as a curriculum to help students become better consumers of health statistics.
