Author(s): Begona Perez-Mira*+ and Joni Ancona Nunnery
Companies: Louisiana State University and Louisiana State University
Address: College of Business, Baron Rouge, LA, 70803,
Keywords: online statistics course ; podcasting ; Tablet PC technology
Abstract:

Online courses are designed to reproduce the experience found in traditional face-to-face(F2F) courses. This presentation will describe the design of a F2F introductory statistics course, including an illustration of lectures where topics are presented to the students using Tablet technology. Specifically, as material is presented via projected lecture slides, annotated comments are written in to resemble the typical chalkboard experience. This presentation will provide a description of a podcast, a pre-recorded audio-video file made available on the internet for replay at anytime, and how it is created. Following, will be an illustration of how podcasting is used to reproduce the delivery of the traditional F2F lecture for subsequent use in the online version of the same course. Comparison of the F2F and online courses will be made in terms of design and educational outcomes assessment.
