Abstract:

The ASA/NCTM Joint Committee (JC) continues to be very active in statistics education projects for schools. Energized and informed by the GAISE Report for PreK-12, the JC has developed data analysis activities for GAISE levels A, B, and C. In addition, ASA members have been instrumental in NCTM Standards development and follow-up. This session details several recent major collaborative efforts and activities between ASA and NCTM as non-Advanced Placement Statistics as well as AP Statistics become an integral part in the school mathematics curriculum. In particular, NCTM's Focus on Data Analysis and Probability in the Mathematics Curriculum, ASA/NCTM's GAISE Activities Project, STEW (ASA peer-reviewed electronic journal for GAISE activities), and the Making Sense of Statistical Studies publication will be detailed.
