Abstract:
|
In this talk I discuss how I have attempted to introduce Bayesian ideas to researchers in nursing. I have employed various strategies depending on the researcher's experience (i.e. students, post-docs, & seasoned researchers). A one-hour seminar integrated into a classical course was implemented for training students. I have written an introduction paper with a non-Bayesian trained post-doc. Seasoned researchers are exposed by writing collaborative papers using Bayesian modeling. Armed with student/faculty evaluations of my seminar as well as my experience with the case studies, I will discuss what has worked and failed. While my nursing colleagues have gained an appreciation of the power of Bayesian thinking, I need to improve on evaluating their knowledge. I will discuss the pros and cons at suggesting their statistics curriculum be revised to devote more time to Bayesian thinking.
