Abstract:

Since the publication of Bill Blackwelder's initial paper on non-inferiority there has been an increasing interest in the topic as is evidenced by the volume of publications. At the same time there has been a re-emergence of interest in Bayesian methods in Pharmaceutical R&D as has recently been recognized by initiatives of both US (Critical Path Initiative) and European (Innovative Medicines Initiative) regulatory authorities. In this paper we investigate the intersection of these two topics and ask the question does a Bayesian perspective bring additional insight into the realm of noninferiority assessment.
