Abstract:

A check of the titles of Joint Statistics Meetings papers or statistics journal articles reveals many with the word Bayes. The increase in activity is due largely to modern computational approaches that allow application of Bayesian methods to modeling complex phenomena. Despite this, the training of most M.S. statisticians and many Ph.D. statisticians includes precious little information about the Bayesian approach. In this survey, talk the Bayesian approach is described and the types of problems for which it seems to be useful are discussed.
