Abstract:

Microarray data monitors the expression level of a wide assortment of genes simultaneously, and it may generate tens of thousand of data points for every experiment performed. It is useful if these data can be represented in a low-dimensional graph instead of a large mass of numbers. Recently, there are many trials to represent the microarray data by two-dimensional graphs using SVD and correspondence analysis (cf. Fellenberg et al., 2001; Holter et al., 2000; Wall et al., 2001). In this paper, we will apply several biplot methods associatiated with special matrices to microarray data. Most of them are based on the SVD and its Eckart-Young approximation. The methods will be evaluated on real data and geometric intepretation and goodness-of-fit are also discussed.
