Author(s): Michiko Wolcott*+

Address: 2 NDC Plaza, Atlanta, Georgia, 30329, USA
Keywords: Applied Statistics ; Analytical Issues ; Data Mining ; Pharmaceutical Marketing
Abstract:

More and more business and marketing decisions are being made based on exploration of pre-existing data, as relevant data have become more readily available and accessible. However, due to the nature of the data and of the business problems, some analytical decisions are not as simple as a straightforward application of statistical tools or methods. Since the inferences made from analyses depend heavily on such decisions, inappropriate understanding of the issues surrounding the nature of the data and the business problem can lead to misleading conclusions.

This applied presentation discusses issues and problems encountered in the business world beyond what is commonly discussed in classroom statistics, using actual examples from the pharmaceutical and health care industry.
