Title: Using Real Time Financial Data in Teaching Statistics
Author(s): Richard Cleary*+
Affiliation(s): Bentley College
Address: Morison Hall, Waltham, Massachusetts, 02452,
Keywords: Statistics Education ; Financial Data
Abstract:

Many students today have access to up-to-the-minute financial data through college and university subscriptions to a variety of business services. We discuss some of the advantages of using this increasingly accessible data, and a few of the dangers, through our experience teaching elementary and intermediate statistics at Bentley College. We compare and contrast the use of financial data with other common sources of real data, including sports, class generated data, and internet data libraries.
