State Proclamation of MAW Students and professors from Gettysburg College met with the governor of their state and prompted an official declaration of MAW. The meeting with Pennsylvania's Governor Tom Ridge involved a "photo op" during which the governor chatted with those in attendance and signed a proclamation declaring Mathematics Awareness Week in PA. The proclamation and the pen used to sign it were presented to the group; they plan to set up a permanent exhibit in the Gettysburg math department. See also the Iowa State Proclamation of MAW, which was set up by the math department at the University of Northern Iowa. |
