The Joint Policy Board for Mathematics (JPBM) is a collaborative effort of the American Mathematical Society, the American Statistical Association, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
JPBM promotes Mathematics Awareness Month (each April) to increase public understanding of and appreciation for mathematics. Each year JPBM chooses a theme, selects an Advisory Committee, and generates a poster and support materials for college and university departments, institutional public information offices, student groups, and related associations and interest groups. The goal is to increase the visibility of mathematics as a field of study and to communicate the power and intrigue in mathematics to a larger audience. We have created a resources page you may use to assist in publicizing Mathematics Awareness Month.
The JPBM Communications Award was established to reward and encourage journalists and other communicators who, on a sustained basis, bring accurate mathematical information to non-mathematical audiences. The award is presented at the Joint Mathematics Meetings held each January.
