Abstract:
|
Required statistics coursework in academic health programs varies across disciplines. Little is known about faculty knowledge of fundamental statistical concepts, and about how curricular decisions are made. This study included a survey of health sciences faculty in the academic health sciences disciplines of nursing, medicine, pharmacy, and public health. A probability sample of 800 faculty from the four disciplines was selected and invited to complete a brief online survey that included 9 demographic-related questions and a 10-question statistics knowledge instrument. Results will be summarized for each discipline, as well as compared across disciplines. Results may serve to inform curricular decisions about statistics education in health sciences academic programs, as well as provide current data as evidence for needed continuing education programs focused on applied statistics for both current and future health sciences faculty.
