I'll give some tips for preparing for and applying for work in the tech in general, and Google in particular. A few hints - we run a lot of experiments, understanding and applying core statistical ideas is important, we resample, you must be able to use computing tools well enough to extract and manipulate data, we work in teams, good communication is important, and consulting experience is valuable.
