Abstract:

Over the course of their working life, many statisticians consider changing their career paths. Because of the varied types of work that statisticians encounter, the nature of these career changes can sometimes be extensive, even taking statisticians across sectors. Together, the speakers in this session have transferred between academia, government, industry, and private consulting, and will be sharing their perspectives on their transitions. These transitions come along with adjustments to new cultures and resources, changing personal situations, and the need for new skills as well as the adaptation of previously acquired knowledge, training, and professional networks. Along with these challenges, though, there are many benefits for individuals and organizations that come from bringing an outside point of view to a new career as well as starting a new adventure.

Please attend this session if you are considering a career change (soon or "one day"), have recently changed careers, or are simply interested in hearing these speakers share their stories.
