Our main interest for this talk is focused on what we call the NIR (near infrared spectroscopy data set), and we investigate briefly the main methods which are available to analyze such data: PCA (principal component analysis), PLS (partial least squares), kernel smoothing (there are various ways to do this), and SVM (support vector machines)
