Understanding Patients’ perspectives of healthcare: Trends from hospitals in Accra (306662)

Background: Health care facilities such as hospitals are institutions that provide health care for the betterment of mankind. Thus they are expected to be organized around people’s needs, work closely with other health and social care services, and contribute to strengthening quality health care and public health services and substantially contribute to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) as well as the attainment of the UN sustainable development goals on health. The purpose of this study was therefore is to evaluate the quality of health care delivered in major hospitals in Accra, Ghana. Methods: The study employed cross-sectional design to obtain quantitative data between 1st November 2017 and 31st January 2018. Results: Majority of respondents indicated that they were given privacy during their examinations (85.1%) and were treated with courtesy and respect by the staff (74.6%). However, 61.4% of the patients were not given adequate instruction or explanations before examination was carried out on them. In terms of waiting time after examinations, majority of the patients (30.7%) indicated that they waited for more than 30 minutes, followed by those who were made to wait for over
