RT04: Working in a Non-statistics (or Non-biostatistics) Department (304410)

*Elizabeth A Stuart, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

Working as a statistician in a non-statistics or biostatistics department can be incredibly rewarding for the ability to work deeply in applied areas, but it can also be challenging to balance applied and statistical interests, navigate institutions, and find a place for yourself. This roundtable, led by a statistician primarily appointed in a Department of Mental Health in a School of Public Health, will discuss some of these issues, including how to find and get these sorts of jobs, what to negotiate for, how to stay connected to the statistical community, how to build your own research agenda, and how to ensure a successful path towards promotion.
