Statistical societies worldwide have declared 2013 to be the International Year of Statistics (Statistics2013). Why should there be such a celebration, and why does it matter? Ron Wasserstein, Executive Director of the American Statistical Association and member of the Statistics2013 Steering Committee, will report on activities around the world that are taking place as part of this celebration of the power and impact of statistics. He will argue that activities such as Statistics2013 are important to the practice and profession of statistics, that we need to be a more visible profession, and will give a call to action for 2014 and beyond.
