Have you ever considered the possibility of working from home, while keeping your current job? This is now becoming a popular option in some industries, due to the increasing ability of technology to keep us connected. In this presentation I will discuss how to best plan and prepare for being a home-based employee, either full-time or one or more days a week. This will include how to formulate your request to your manager, think through the impact on clients and coworkers, plan for your home office, and maintain visibility within your department/company. I will describe how to craft a proposal for working from home that will increase the chances of it being accepted even by a company that has not allowed it or is resistant to it. Importantly, the potential upsides and downsides of working remotely will be discussed. My presentation is based on insights from my own experience as a full-time, remote-based worker for over 8 years. This talk will inspire participants to develop a carefully thought-out plan for being a successful home-based employee and is applicable to attendees who are considering teleworking.
