Data Scraping, Parsing, Wrangling, and Cleaning (303376)

*Mark Daniel Ward, Purdue University

Keywords: data analysis

We will study a few examples of ways that R, SQL, and bash shell can be used together, during the earliest stages of data gathering, dissection, and analysis. Ward has experience teaching students with no computational background, who learn very quickly how to perform data analysis in a large, external server environment. The session will give a brief digest of how students learn such skills so quickly. It will be an example-driven digest, including code for the participants to use, reuse, and adapt to their own needs.
