We believe statisticians can more effectively collaborate with nonstatisticians to solve real-world problems and implement solutions for their organization by learning essential nontechnical skills. In this talk, we describe two processes for structuring effective statistical collaborations and consultations. We discuss Doug Zahn’s POWER process, which outlines five critical steps for every meeting: P – Prepare; O – Open; W – Work; E – End; R – Reflect. We show short video clips from real meetings that demonstrate how simple and effective this process can be for structuring meetings. We also discuss how to establish a collaborative relationship with your client and achieve excellent outcomes through our “QQQ process,” which outlines three stages of every applied statistics problem: Q1 – Qualitative stage to understand the research or business problem; Q2 – Quantitative stage using statistics to solve the problem; Q3 – 2nd qualitative stage to explain the solution and how to implement it. Our goal is to help unlock the collaborative potential of the attendees who will return to key roles within their organizations to use the power of statistics to solve real-world problems.
