Releasing Statistical Information while Protecting the Underlying Individual Data (302438)*Paul B Massell, U.S. Census BureauKeywords: disclosure avoidance, statistical disclosure limitation, cell suppression Governmental statistical agencies typically collect survey data for the purpose of releasing the aggregated data in various forms (e.g., tables, microdata). However, the agencies must be careful to avoid releasing data that reveals the identity or other sensitive values of the individual entities (person, household, establishment) that were data contributors. There are now a wide range of disclosure avoidance methods being used. They attempt to either suppress the sensitive individual data or at least create adequate uncertainty about it. We will present an overview of these methods.
