Parallel Session: Statistical Challenges for Medical Tests with Reference Databases

An introduction and comparison of methods for determining reference intervals (300555)

*Justin Rogers, Abbott Laboratories

Reference intervals for quantitative assays can aid clinicians in discerning sick from healthy patients, and some reference values are used to define cutoffs for certain assays. CLSI EP28-A3c describes several methods that can be used for calculating these reference intervals. The methods are introduced in this talk, and simulations are used to illustrate and compare the methods in several different scenarios.
